In 2025, we estimate that our program will cost 9,000 USD per classroom.

Previously, we raised funds from partners based on the local classroom expenses only. It didn’t include the cost of shipping, recycling and everything else it takes to keep TechLit ticking.

We naively planned to fundraise separately for us to continue working on TechLit’s program full-time. The problem is that funders for that kind of thing are rare, and we were also working on TechLit’s program full-time.

Our solution to this is to align our program and fundraising incentives so that fundraising is a by-product of improving the program.

The 9,000 USD figure includes everything needed for us to run the program at cost, so that we can continue building TechLit sustainably.

The 9,000 USD figure assumes that we add a few more classrooms this year. If we were to add many more, it will cost less per classroom.

Many organizations already fund-raised for this year based on our previous estimate. It’s entirely possible for us to keep those commitments!

  1. Co-funding option
  2. We intend to use reserves to fund the missing pieces.
  3. The worst case scene

There are some communities in Kenya who fund the program themselves.
